The development of a form through multiple studies led me to create the perfect lamp base. Inspired by the space needle and middle-eastern hookahs, this piece was turned using a large chunk of walnut on a lathe.

i moved straight into three dimensional, using a lathe to push against its ornamental bias and explore a modern form. with scrap hardwood, i ran multiple studies to experiment, iterate, and refine the shape.

i selected my three strongest studies, overlaid them in illustrator, and combined the best elements into a final form, refining it within the intended dimensions.

this piece was also featured on the univertiy of michigans website, https://stamps.umich.edu/work/440196
aswell as displayed at the Undergraduate juried exhibition in the winter of 2026
